My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday afternoon. The smell outside was intoxicating, and we were excited for some soul food in NM. We waited 10 minutes to even have our drink order taken. After waiting an additional 35 minutes, our server came to apologize that the smoked turkey leg my boyfriend had ordered was not yet ready to be served--something that would have been nice to know much earlier. He ordered another entree, and we continued to wait. After over an hour, we received our pork chop and liver and onions, and we were sorely disappointed. Both were incredibly overcooked--his to the point of leather, mine black around the edges. The red beans and rice as well as the collards still tasted great, so I ate my side dishes. My boyfriend took 2 bites and was too upset to eat anything else. We waited another 10 minutes to even speak to anyone about our issue. After speaking to Ms. AJ, I offered to pay for the 2 small sides I did eat and the drinks. Our total? $18.50. We left a $20 on the counter and walked out. Needless to say, we're never going back. If you want to wait an hour for burnt food, be my guest.

Food was authentic and delicious. Waited an hour for our meal though. We did however get a complimentary dessert. Recommend the fried cabbage and collard greens. We will try this restuarant again but if the wait is this long next time then we won't be back without calling our order in ahead of time. The staff was very pleasant.

Friendly staff and fantastic service. Good food is worth waiting for! They make you feel right at home! Biscuits and gravy awesome. Chicken and waffles amazing. Chicken liver great..... Mac and cheese is top notch. I have not been disappointed here at all and I will frequent this place - A LOT!! Love this restaurant!

Man ooooo man this place is good! It was very hard to decide what to order, the menu is packed with favorites! I decided on the chicken and waffles mmmmmmmmmmmm! Freakin chicken is bomb diggity! Im comin back, and comin back soon!

I was so excited to have chicken and waffles here, but I was so disappointed. Service was slow. Waffles were white and soggy. I like my waffles crispy. The chicken was good. My collard greens were okay as was the fried okra, but the hush puppies were so dry, I could barely get them down. I doubt I'll be back.

My wife and I decided to try out the newly opened Ms AJ's Taste of Soul for lunch today. My wife had fish tacos with yams and I had the entree of meatloaf with dirty rice, mac-N-cheese, and a southern biscuit. Both of our meals were very good. Service was excellent. We will return.

We went on a Saturday at 530 and the food took about 35 mins to arrive. Excellent fried chicken, catfish, collards, cornbread. The waitress was friendly. The price is high for Las Cruces-- over $30 for 2 people. But I was happy with the meal.

The food was amazing! I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of Mac and cheese and mash potatoes. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the waffle was nice and fluffy. The sides were perfectly cooked. I got a slice of cake and it was sooo delicious. I left the restaurant satisfied! Great amazing food. I'm definitely going to go regularly.
